Elaine Batchlor

UC Regent

UC Regent Elaine Batchlor, M.D., M.P.H., is the Chief Executive Officer at Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Healthcare. Under her leadership, MLK Community Healthcare has received national attention for its innovative work bringing high-quality accessible healthcare to underserved populations including expanding community-based prenatal care. We are honored that Dr. Batchlor will be introducing Supervisor Mitchell and joining the conversation on health equity for Black birthing persons and their families.

Holly J. Mitchell

Supervisor, Los Angeles County

Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell currently serves on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the two million residents of Los Angeles County’s Second District. Supervisor Mitchell leads with a deep understanding of the vital safety net L.A. County provides to millions of families and is committed to ensuring that all residents can thrive. As the inaugural Distinguished Speaker for the CRSHE, Supervisor Michell will be discussing the policies she has championed that are aimed at improving the lives of Black birthing persons and their families.

Kristin Schlater

Health Education Program Manager, L.A. Care Health Plan

Kristin Schlater, M.B.A. is the Health Education Program Manager III with L.A. Care Health Plan managing Maternal Health Programs. Kristin is a Los Angeles native with an experienced background in health equity and healthcare advocacy. In her role at L.A. Care Health Plan, Kristin strives to improve healthcare access to those most in need, with one of her many projects being the launch the Medi-Cal Doula Benefit.

Director, UCLA Center of Reproductive Science, Health and Education

Amander Clark, Ph.D., is a Professor of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology. She is the inaugural Director of the UCLA Center for Reproductive Science, Health and Education. The mission of the Center is to support research and educational initiatives to improve reproductive health and care, with a vision for a future in which reproductive policies are based on rigorous research and access to reproductive care is more equitable. The Center is privileged to host this critical conversation highlighting research. education and policy around the topic of Black maternal health.

Tracy L. Johnson

Dean, Division of Life Sciences

Tracy Johnson, Ph.D., was appointed Dean of Life Sciences in September 2020. She is holder of the Keith and Cecilia Terasaki Presidential Endowed Chair, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Professor, and a Professor of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology. Dean Johnson is recognized for her scientific leadership, contributions to educational innovation, and as a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dean Johnson is delighted to welcome you here to engage with us as we unite policy, health care, research, and education to improve the lives and care of Black birthing persons.
