Nominations for the Division of Life Sciences annual Excellence Awards in administrative (staff), research, teaching innovation, and inclusive excellence are now open. Award recipients will be acknowledged during a special reception, and recognized on a publicly displayed plaque. The individual lab/group will receive a monetary gift of $500.

Excellence in Research
The four Excellence Awards in Research will be based on a single research paper published within the past three years (2022-2025) by a postdoctoral fellow, PhD candidate, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, who has an FTE in Life Sciences or who has taught a course for Life Sciences.
Process for consideration: Any faculty may nominate a paper for this honor, by themselves, or a colleague, and include the following documents:
- Nominated publication in the form of a link to or attachment of a PDF copy of the publication.
- Letter of no more than 500 words explaining briefly what problem was addressed in the paper, the methodology used, and the importance of the findings. In short, why is this an unusually important publication?
- In cases of self-nomination, a second letter of evaluation, also less than 500 words long, should be included from another faculty member. Supporting materials, such as editorial commentary from the journal publishing the paper, or another journal, may be included.
Excellence in Educational Innovation
- Life Sciences Award for Excellence in Educational Innovation by an untenured faculty member
- Life Sciences Award for Excellence in Educational Innovation by a tenured faculty member
- Life Sciences Award for Excellence in Education Innovation by a Lecturer, Academic Administrator or Academic Coordinator
- Life Sciences Award for Excellence in Educational Innovation by Postdoctoral Fellow (PhD candidate)
Process for consideration: Self-nominations or nominations of a colleague for an achievement taking place within the last three years (2022-2025) must include three documents submitted electronically, preferably in PDF format:
- A statement of no longer than 500 words, explaining the educational innovations through novel methods, publication, or public outreach or specific efforts to promote diversity through service, mentorship, teaching, curriculum development, or research.
- A short paragraph of endorsement from the nominee’s chair.
- One letter of nomination of no longer than 500 words from a colleague or student, from UCLA or elsewhere, which can attest to the nominee’s innovations and/or diversity efforts and their effects.
Inclusive Excellence
Process for consideration: Self-nominations or nominations of a colleague for an achievement taking place within the last three years (2022-2025) must include three documents submitted electronically, preferably in PDF format:
- A statement of no longer than 500 words, explaining the specific efforts to promote inclusion through service, mentorship, teaching, curriculum development, or research.
- One letter of nomination (less than 500 words) from a colleague or student, from UCLA or elsewhere, which can attest to the nominee’s inclusion efforts and their effects.
- A short paragraph of endorsement from the nominee’s chair.
Excellence in Administration
The Excellence in Administration Award is for staff who have gone “above and beyond” to support the mission of the division by demonstrating excellence in administration.
- One letter of nomination (less than 500 words) from a colleague, attesting to the nominee’s efforts and their effects to promote exemplary service, improved efficiency in operations, outstanding team leadership, excellence through mentorship, etc.
- Self-nominations should include a second letter of support (less than 500 words) from another staff member.
- A short paragraph of endorsement from the nominee’s chair.
