Z. Hong Zhou, UCLA professor of microbiology, immunology and molecular genetics, has been named a 2024 fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, an honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology, one of the largest professional societies of microbial scientists and health practitioners from around the globe.

Fellows are elected annually through a highly selective, peer-review process, based on their records of scientific achievement and original contributions that have advanced the field of microbiology. From a pool of 156 nominations, 65 fellows were selected for this year’s Fellowship Class.

“Academy Fellowship signifies a distinguished accolade, and I am delighted to extend my congratulations and warm welcome to Z. Hong Zhou as a member of the 2024 Cohort. Fellows are an outstanding assembly of scientists whose contributions have propelled the discipline of microbiology, and whose knowledge benefits both the scientific community and broader society,” said Vanessa Sperandio, Ph.D., Chair of the Academy Governors.
