UCLA research has found that since the 2018 Woolsey wildfire, local mountain lions avoided burned areas and engaged in behavior that could increase their odds of mortality and extinction.
The lead author of the study, Rachel Blakey, conducted the research as a La Kretz postdoctoral fellow in the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, working with ecology and evolutionary biology professor Daniel Blumstein and adjunct professor Seth Riley, both co-authors on this publication.
